Studies: Hypnotherapy Can Help With Anxiety

Although hypnotherapy still has a lot of gray areas, there is no doubt that it works very well on humans. Since it works in the psyche, there aren't really any tangible results observed at once. Changes in behavior and mood patterns can only be established after repeat tests conducted over a prolonged period of time. And following these test patterns, it has been established that hypnotherapy can help with anxiety.

By definition, anxiety is a mental condition characterized by excessive worrying, obsessive compulsive behaviors, fears, social anxiety, negative thinking and even procrastination. When left untreated anxiety could lead to problems in relationships and even affect a person's sense of self. So when you are anxious, you get a feeling of being powerless or out of control. Therefore, if you can identify the areas that make you feel powerless, you should be able to address them properly and hence, get the cure for anxiety.

Hypnotherapy can help with anxiety because it relaxes your mind and body to help you focus on the root cause of your anxiety. If you can get to ground zero, your hypnotherapist can then move on to the likely resolution of your issue through positive suggestions.

Case Study #1:

John has been suffering from anxiety for years and have been given antidepressants. He has been trying very hard to control the symptoms whenever his anxiety attacks and those would usually include rapid breathing, feeling sick, light headedness and even flashing lights. However, he has been unsuccessful. This is because as soon as the first wave of symptoms disappear, they will only be replaced by a new wave of similar symptoms.

So John wanted to know if hypnotherapy can help with anxiety. He sought the help of a hypnotherapist who guided him towards the root of his problem. They found out that John becomes anxious when he is travelling. So that essential piece of information fueled the rest of the sessions. The hypnotherapist created suggestions from there and ultimately resulted to John being able to cope with his anxiety without the use of drugs.

From the case study above, you can deduce that the first task of the hypnotherapist is to evaluate the anxiety condition. He or she would first have to know if the anxiety is organic in nature or is it a result of medicines taken in the past. It would also need to be established if the anxiety is at the tip of an iceberg of another but more serious medical condition or perhaps a psychiatric syndrome.

Phobias, post traumatic stress disorders, obsessive compulsive disorders and adjustment disorders are also common causes of anxiety.

There are two general approaches to anxiety: analytic and behavioral. What your hypnotherapist will use for your specific scenario depends on his or her initial investigation of your case. It is then important that you cooperate and to trust your therapist completely in order to truly attest that hypnotherapy can help with anxiety.

Yes, hypnotherapy can help with anxiety if only you'll open your mind to it. The key here is to locate the best therapist for you and you should be well on your way to full recovery.
