What Would Happen If All Your Ducks Were In a Row?

WHAT? What will you do?

When we begin to realize that there is something stirring inside us, grabbing our attention or there is a shaking under our shoes, or changes begin to take us to the next level, we often believe that once we get our ducks in a row, we will have the time to focus on that new task, endeavor, opportunity. Having our ducks in row falsely prevents us from grabbing that brass ring and finally going for our gold.

I know you understand what I mean by getting our ducks in row, but here are a few examples I'd like to share... once the shopping is done, the calls are made, the house is clean, the junk drawer is organized, the moon and the stars are lined up in the perfect formation, the dog becomes friends with the cat, once I finish sewing the badges on my 20-year-old-daughter's girl scout sash from 10 years ago. You may laugh, but it's what we do and it keeps us stuck.

Three significant occurrences happen from this persistent behavior.

Firstly, we miss out on the simple stuff. Secondly, this conduct keeps us stuck; and thirdly, and most importantly, we don't get to do what we are called to do ONLY because of this unrealistic thought that everything must be perfectly aligned BEFORE we can move into our what's next.

Today, I would just like to focus on the first point of missing out on the simple stuff. As you already know, but may need to remember, when we are consistently moving at record speed we tend to have our eyes and hearts closed to the simple pleasures of life. This is an important time to point out and also remind you that I blog about what I experience and what I'm going through. I am searching for the answers just like you. Honestly, I've been chasing those damn ducks for 30 years.

So, what can we do to finally break this bothersome trait? We can simply notice... Right now, I'm reading and listening to Taming Your Gremlin... A Guide to Enjoying Yourself by Richard D. Carson and I highly recommend it. Mr. Carson doesn't ask us to change the behavior at first. First, we just need to simply notice it and then he moves on to bringing our awareness to the forefront by asking us to ask Now I Aware... which brings us to the moment.

Our gremlin wants us to stay scared, stagnant and stuck so he falsely leads us to believe that if we have all our ducks in a row then we can finally live authentically. WRONGO! Why? Because once we get those ducks in a row, our gremlin graciously provides us with a new flock of ducks so we can repeatedly try to get everything aligned. This is the work of our gremlin NOT our authentic selves.

Our lives are happening NOW. There are joyous moments that we are missing because we are too busy spinning our wheels, chasing our tails and living with blinders on. The good stuff is in the quiet moments, the simple tasks and the gratification of experiencing the awakening of our true life. The simple stuff is noticing that things are falling into place and taking that lead and moving forward. Remember, this is a time of reinvention for you and the ducks. Our ducks can learn a thing or two about the simple stuff, forward movement AND accepting you don't have to follow the duck in front of you, you can all go separate ways and still be successful.
