One of the first things that you should think about when you’re setting personal goals is what specific things you want to accomplish in your lifetime. These lifetime goals will give you the perspective that you need to shape many of the decisions that you’ll be making in your life.

There are some specific areas of your life in which you’re going to want to set very determined goals. The following categories will help you to focus on certain aspects of your lifetime goals
• Mental attitude: Your mental attitude should be positive so that there are no negative thoughts or mindsets holding you back. Take a look at your behavior in certain situations and ask yourself if this was something that prevented you from reaching a specific goal.
• Your career: Depending on what career you want, there will be specific goals that you need to follow to make sure that you have all your credentials at the end of your schooling. Ask yourself what level it is that you want to reach in your career.
• Family: Setting family goals can be a bit more difficult than other goals because your decision will usually affect someone else as well. You’ll first need to decide if you want to be a parent and if you want the responsibilities that come with parenting.
• Financial: Determine how much you want to be making when you reach a certain age.
• Physical: Determine if there are any athletic goals that you want to reach. This can be as simple as staying in good health or as complicated as learning how to mountain climb. What will it take for you to reach this physical goal?
• Pleasure: Make a list of things that make you happy. Then make another list of steps that you can take to incorporate more of these pleasures into your life.

Once you have a list of the above categories clearly written down you’ll need to assign them with a priority number. Start with the number one priority and then start to implement changes in your life so that you can achieve this goal. Work down the list but keep in mind that you can change the priority of a category at any time. Your lifetime goals are the milestones that you want to reach for your own personal achievement. When you’re setting lifetime goals it’s important that you make decisions for yourself that are going to fit into the person you want to be. Perhaps the most important step when it comes to goal setting is to be firm in the lifetime goals categories that you feel are most important to you.

The Case for Commitment

One of the critical characteristics to anyone’s success is his or her commitment level. Commitment is defined as an obligation or pledge given in trust. Unfortunately, our society and world today seeks self-gratification; thus discomfort of any kind is a reason for breaking commitments.

In most TV shows, note how many commitments can be broken in just one hour -- from personal relationships, to business deals, to parents disappointing their children. Ultimately, the person who breaks the commitment pays the price with his or her reputation and credibility, both internally and externally.

The challenge of commitment levels applies to all of us. As I write this article, the process is being driven by my personal commitment to get it out on time. Normally, I really enjoy the creative writing experience, but I have just finished presenting for several 12 hour days. In addition, I have many other obligations and I’m feeling a bit tired. So what? I have a commitment to this article and its readers and my credibility is based on keeping it. I choose to follow through.

At this moment, recall a person or a business that did not keep a significant commitment to you. How did that make you feel? Did that experience generate feelings of loyalty, helpfulness, support, or praise? Certainly not!

Keeping commitments is also important in your personal life. Have you ever made a commitment to lose weight, stop smoking, start a business, or begin an exercise regime, then waned on your promise to yourself? When you break your commitments to yourself, it’s like a slow leak in a tire. Eventually the tire will go flat.

Commitment really does matter. In the book, Good to Great: Why Some Companies Make the Leap . . . and Others Don't, Jim Collins conducted five years of research on the most successful companies in America. What -- without exception -- was a core character trait of each business? Commitment, of course -- but not any garden-variety level of commitment. Those top companies move forward with a "we will continue UNTIL!" attitude. In the most successful companies, quitting is not an option.

Mankind’s most significant achievements reflect an unprecedented level of commitment, from the famous -- Edison’s 10,000 attempts to create the light bulb, Mandela’s lifetime of imprisonment before freedom came to the people of South Africa, and Walt Disney’s three bankruptcies prior to creating Mickey Mouse -- to the unsung heroes . . . a country doctor who saves his patient's life during a difficult operation or a commercial pilot who lands his plane safely in rough weather. The list goes on.

What level of commitment are you applying to your life -- the TV version of bailing when you find yourself slightly uncomfortable or the Good to Great concept of being committed UNTIL?

  1. Remember that commitment is a discipline and a choice. Don’t blame circumstances for your commitment levels.
  2. Rate your commitment level for each of the essential areas of your life -- family, social, business, financial, spiritual, and physical. Use a scale of 1 to 10 -- 10 being very committed. How would others rate you in each category on that same scale?
  3. Commitment levels can be situational, meaning you can have high levels of commitment in some areas and lower levels in others. Record why you sometimes don’t follow through.
  4. Commitment doesn't mean you should be blindly unchanging. Unhealthy, negative situations call for common sense. Don't stay committed to a choice that is life-threatening and destructive over the long term.
  5. Envision how much better or different your life might be if your commitment levels were higher than they are today. Most individuals keep a commitment because of the results it will produce. To stay motivated and to follow through on your word, focus on the positive outcome.
  6. If commitment has been a challenge for you, what has "going back on your word" cost you?
  7. When you fail to keep your commitments, don't beat yourself up. There is no benefit in that. Instead, determine why and how you will keep your commitments in the future.
  8. Choose someone you trust as an accountability and support partner. When elite athletes struggle with commitment, the coach is there to assist them.

Daily, almost hourly it seems we get battered with messaged and demands on bits of paper. if that isn’t bad enough, the phone is constantly going off forcing you to stop and re-start tasks.

How are you expected to get things done with all of these forces working against you? In this
article we will look at ways to keep the interruptions to a minimum while you try to sort your life out. Most of us get something in the mail nearly everyday. If it isn’t junk, it is bills or other things that need our attention.

The highly organized person will check through their mail everyday and tackle those things immediately. Most of us just stuff it all in the drawer and wish it would go away. Something you can try is to get a small wicker or plastic basket. Make a deal with yourself. Put all of your mail in this small container and leave it. However, there are 2 conditions.

The mail must still be visible and once the container is full you need to go through everything
and tackle what needs to be done. This is effective for a few reasons. It does force you to look at your mail on a fairly regular basis. It also keeps it in a safe location so it is not cluttering up your house or office. Finally, keeping it visible will remind you it is there so it doesn’t fall into the out of sight out of mind trap.

How many times have you set aside time to do things only to be interrupted by a constant barrage of phone calls. The more times you have to stop and re-start a task the less likely it will get done. The best thing to do is set aside some time to return phone calls. If the phone keeps ringing, let it ring. Let your answering machine do its job. If you like you can even put a message for callers stating you are otherwise engaged and will return calls at this time.

It is important not to let outside forces stop you from getting your tasks done. The more times you have to restart the less likely you will finish. By keeping the mail in a safe place and setting aside time to return phone calls, you can devote your time where you need to, getting your life sorted out.

Small objects are easy to misplace and lose. This is likely most true of our keys. How often have you been ready to head out the door and are stopped in your tracks because you cannot find your keys. You turn the place up and down for hours until you locate them in the last place you had left them. We can all relate to this because it has likely happened at some point in our lives.

This problem is quite easy to overcome with a little practice and formation of new habits. If you’re in a position that requires you to have a beeper then you’re in a really good position to
never lose your keys again. If you simply attach your beeper to your keeps, they next time you misplace them, activate your beeper. When the sound goes off you should be able to find your keys quite quickly. This can work for other small objects as well.

If you don’t own a beeper then there are other things that you can try. Simply try putting a box for keys up so it is visible. Place near to the front or main entrance to your house, so it is the first thing you see as you come in and leave. Get into the habit of putting your keys in the box. Once you do it a few times it should start to become habit forming.

If you find your continually forgetting to put your keys in the box. Then some extra reinforcement might be needed. Get a roll of quarters, at least 20. Every time you put your keys in the box place a quarter in as well. Once you have done something 20 times it usually becomes a habit.

However, if it still isn’t sticking in your memory empty the quarters and start again. The quarters will serve as an extra reminder of where to put your keys until the habit is formed. No one needs expensive equipment or software to organize and remember. All you need are
simple devices and time to try to form new habits. Practice makes perfect and before you know it, you’ll never be searching for those keys again.

How many times have we put off doing those large tasks because we know how much effort
and energy they will require? Just thinking about doing them wears you down. Soon you find
that this large job that you once had weeks to accomplish much be done in days. In this article we will look at ways to take on big tasks so they are more manageable. We will look and the best times of the day to tackle certain things to get them finished and checked off of your list.

Most big tasks can be broken up into small manageable tasks. To get then done with as little
stress as possible, this is what should be done. If you’re looking to spring clean your home, for example, divide the house up room by room. Then list everything that needs to be done in each room. Once you have your lists you need to prioritize what needs to be done first, second and so on. Once this is complete you can get going. Making lists of smaller tasks and ticking them off as you get them done gives you a feeling of accomplishment. Instead of one monster task you can reward yourself for doing the series of smaller tasks. You’ll see things start to take shape and feel better as the task suddenly becomes smaller.

Big tasks in some ways are a mixed blessing. There are things that you like to do and things
that you dread. When you have your list of what you want to get done for that day, if at all
possible do the least desired task first. You energy levels are highest in the early part of the day so giving it to those tasks you really don’t want to do will get them ticked off of your list much faster. Waiting until later, when you are tired and slow, will virtually guarantee that the task will get put off.

Big tasks seem quite daunting however; nearly all of them can be shattered into small tasks. By doing this you’re making the large task much more manageable and even enjoyable at times. The next large task you know you have coming, pan in advance and break it up. You’ll find it isn’t so bad.

How many times have you gotten home from work and realized you had forgotten to do some important chore? By the time you realized it, it is too late is has to be put off until another day. How many times have you forgotten to do something because, it was scheduled months prior but when the date roles around, you have completely forgotten about it. This happens to all of us at some point in our lives. We get caught up in the daily grind of life and our routines so anything that happen outside of that runs a great risk of getting missed. In this article we will look at some ways to remind yourself of those little day to day chores and errands and to help remind your self of those events coming up in the next few months.

Many of us need just reminding to do those chores and errands after work. There are various things you can try. You don’t need to invest loads of money in expensive software or hire a PA. You can do it with things you likely have in your home. The most basic tool is the little notebook and pen. Make sure you have this with you at all times and jot down those things you need to do that day. Always have it in your pocket as a reminder. Try to stay away from little scraps of paper. These frequently get lost making them useless.

If you have email or voice mail on your computer, try sending yourself messages. This is easy to do and takes just seconds. You can also set it up to send you messages while you are at work. Finally, if you have an answering machine in your home, phone it and leave yourself a reminder message. This is one of the first things we do when we arrive in our homes is check our messages. Should you forget during the day but are reminded as soon as you walk in. you may still have time to complete the chore that day.

Finally, what can you do about those dates that are due to come up in the future? Again, leave the high tech stuff alone. All you need is a small box and some index cards. Section the cards off according to month and label cards clearly with dates that something needs to be completed by.

This is an excellent system for remembering those doctors and dentist appointments that are months away or some bill or other financial obligation. By using these simple tips. The chances of you forgetting any important matters will greatly decrease.

How many times has something broken in your home? If your normal, likely loads. Many times items can be repaired but you have no idea where you left the assembly instructions. Without these, even with the replacement part, the item is now useless. This means it needs to be thrown out and replaced with something new. This wastes money and resources.

This happens also with items that cannot be repaired. How many times have you bought something and got it home to find it was broken. Either that or it breaks within its warranty period. The problem comes when you have no idea where the receipt or warranty evidence is. Again, this results in good money being wasted. A good thing you may want to try is designating a drawer or cupboard to these types of items.

Warranties and directions will fit nicely into kitchen drawers making them easy to locate. Receipts should be first placed in a large sized envelope and then placed in the drawer. Everything should be clearly labeled including the drawer itself. If at all possible. Do not put anything else in that drawer or things will start to get lost.

Having the ability to find these things quickly will save a lot of time and heartache. The kitchen makes the perfect place because it is one of the most frequently used rooms in the house. Nearly everyone in the family will go in there at one point of another during the day, and having that drawer clearly labeled will constantly remind family members where those documents, you never thought you would need are located.

Buying too much means that some could possibly spoil, wasting money. Buying to little means another trip to the store, wasting fuel. The answer to this problem seems simple, make a list. However, you need to put time into shopping lists or the wrong things get purchased.

Before you get that pencil and paper put, put your self into the correct room, the kitchen. As your making your list, you can actually check through and see what you are getting low on. You can see if certain items need to be replenished or if they can wait another week. A good, accurate list will keep unnecessary items from being bought and needed items from being forgotten.

Paperwork, for some reason seems hard to part with. Not many of us get emotionally attached to documents, but we fear the day we may need that particular document for reference. The first thing you should do is get everything into stacks. Take everything out such as passports, birth certificates, marriage certificates and tax returns. Put your stacks into boxes and put the date of 1 year from today on the top. If the year passes and you not had to look in the box, chuck it. You won’t likely need it.

Finally, our lovely children can be organizational nightmares. Getting them off to school alone can be a mammoth task. Something that may help is a large plastic or wicker laundry basket. Before your children go to bed make them fill that basket with everything they need for the next day. All of their gym clothes, books etc. Whatever they are going to need to get them through the day. This will make the items easy to access making the whole morning go faster. It will also teach your child responsibility and organizational skills. By implementing these tips, you life and the life of your children can be organized and much
less stressful.

finances in order. Although these likely do what they are intended, they are costly. Why spend
hundreds of dollars when you can do the same thing for almost nothing. All you need is a pen
and paper. By simply looking at your ban statement, writing down your bills, how much goes out
and when, you’ll be taking the first step in getting your finances organized. IF you want to go
high tech, you can create a spread sheet on your home computer. Leave the software and do it
your self.

Something else that people are prone to buy are organizers. These range between 10-20
dollars. It is true that some kind of filing system is needed to keep track of bills as they come
and when they get paid. However, you can make your own for next to nothing. Check to see if
you have any plastic wallets lying around. If not you can purchase a package of about 100 for
about 1.50$. Check to see if you have an old ring binder or folder. Again, if not these are
available in most book stores for 2-3$. Simply store the bills in here and mark as they get paid.
This filing system works just as well as those expensive organizers that you can purchase.

To unlock the infinite power of self you must understand what Self is. Your self consists of three
core elements: your body your mind and your spirit. You must work on each one of these
elements as part of the self improvement process. Each part of self affects the other and each

Self Improvement Through Body

Your body is the vehicle with which you interact with physical life. Through your body you
communicate with the world around you. Your mind uses your body to express itself, your spirit
uses your body to experience itself. You must keep your body as fit and active as it is possible
for it to be for the rest of your life. Improve your diet. There is so much information on nutrition
and health. Feed your body so that it can perform at an optimal level everyday. Your body
includes your hair and skin, your heart, your blood, your respiratory system and your hormones.
What are the foods that you need to be consuming that keep these parts of the body functioning
at their peak - always?

Your body was built as a strong active working machine. It has been constructed for a potential
life of well over a hundred years. If you do not let your body do what it was designed for it will
falter and ultimately fail. As well as feeding body for optimum health you must also exercise it so
that it can renew itself. Your muscles keep themselves strong by use. The same can be said of
your brain too.

It is through the mind that you make the decisions for your body. Everything that you are today

subconscious where you have stored learned behavior from the past.

We are all creative beings just as the ultimate being is the divine creator. To create something is
to bring into existence something that did not exist before. Creative genius comes when you
bring into existence something that will enhance the lives of all who encounter your creation,
including yourself. In order to tap your creative genius, there are a few considerations that you
should be aware of.

There is one thing that your creative energy demands a lot of and that is time. You have to
allow yourself enough space for your creative energies to flow. Some people are fortunate to
have a form of employment which requires them to apply their creative minds on a regular
basis. If you are a teacher you will continually creating new ways in which to impart knowledge
to individual children. The best teachers are always creative geniuses. Others of us are in jobs
that only require a certain set of skills. After we have acquired the skills we keep on applying
them over and over again without much room for creative thinking. If you fall into this category
then you will need to set aside separate time in which to work creatively.

Finding extra time is not always easy with modern daily schedules. Work, travel, family, health,
are all things which take precedence over our time. After these priorities are attended to we are
often too spent to begin thinking creatively about anything. The problem is that when we are not
able to apply our creativity, which is an inherent drive within all of us, we become dissatisfied
and unfulfilled. Sometimes we encounter disgruntled people in the work place and those who
appear to hate their jobs. These people are often expressing the deep dissatisfaction they feel
at not being able to express themselves more creatively in their lives.

To avoid becoming dissatisfied you must apply yourself creatively. The best way to do this, if
you have a very busy schedule, is to channel your creative energy into those things you have to
do everyday. A good example of this is food. Cooking is an excellent way to get creative and
many of us have to do it everyday. Instead of preparing the same old meals everyday or relying
on supermarket ready prepared selections you can create new ways in which you and your
family enjoy food and stay healthy. If you travel to work everyday by bus or train you might use
this bit of regularly occurring time to read. Reading inspires creativity and you can use the reading
time to read something that will teach you something new about what you are interested in.

Although being creative is time consuming it can also be very relaxing. After a hard day at
work, instead of slumping in front of the TV for the next 3 hours, you can use this relaxation
period to apply yourself creatively. If painting or flower arranging or writing is your thing, this is
a very good time to allocate toward pursuing such creative hobbies.

Those who do have a bit of extra time to spend being creative can consider attending a course
or group that specializes in their chosen creative pursuit. Other people who are interested in the
same thing as you are and who express themselves creatively in a similar way to you, provide a
wonderful resource of creative energy which you can draw on to fire up your own creative
thinking. Other members will be drawing from you too, everyone contributes and everyone
benefits.

It is always a good strategy, for those who are able, to take time to visit somewhere else away
from home. If you are able to get away to areas of outstanding natural beauty for example, you
should find that the environment inspires you creatively. It is no coincidence that many artists
have produced some of their best work in some of the world's most fabulous locations.

The way to tap your creativity is to try to think creatively as much as you can even while
occupied with mundane, non-creative activities. You should also understand that creative
energy needs to be fed by time; you must find as much time as you can to apply your creative
thinking otherwise you might not blossom into the creative genius you are capable of being.
